For spinning reels, the filler spool axis is positioned parallel to the rod which allows the fishing line to un-coil from the filler spool and coil onto the spinning reel spool. The rod clamping system has 3 different settings so you can clamp rod blanks that range in size from 0.15 inches to 1.0 inches in diameter.
